Magnum Predicts Top 5 Excuses for Management to Avoid Document Management April 19, 2010

If we need to, we can usually find it. We usually can find the information we need when a customer calls. Sometimes it takes a while, but once we send out an email to all staff asking for the information, it usually shows up after a bit.
We’ve got to pick our battles. Even if it’s true that organizations typically spend $20 in labor to file a document, $120 in labor to find a misfiled document, and $220 in labor to reproduce a lost document, it’s chump change to us. We have much bigger costs to worry about.
It’s good for staff to be busy. We understand that professionals can spend up to 50% of their time looking for the right information. That’s what we pay them for.
Information security just isn’t at the top of our list. Yes, we lock the doors at night. And yes, we keep the HR files locked. And yes we use passwords on our computers. But we need to be flexible. If people want to take information home and work on it on their home computer, that’s a good thing. We trust our employees.
Our business isn’t located on a flood plain or anything. Sure when we see all those paper documents floating around after a flood on the news, we feel bad for those people. But we’re not located in a place where disasters happen.
Ask Magnum about their Hosted Document Management Solution – no hardware to buy, no software to install. We have robust plans that start as low as $ 19 per month for three users with unlimited storage.
Xerox Solid Ink March 31, 2010

Solid Ink printing technology from Xerox is the hottest item in the market right now. All the star power : high speed, low cost, environmental friendliness & hip coolness are packed into this technology.
Xerox, in 1991, introduced a new solid ink technology to the market that was clean, easy to use, and provided great printing results. Solid ink technology was developed and then released on the Phaser series of printers with the Xerox Phaser 8560 and its inexpensive Xerox 8560 ink being the most popular. The ink is a resin based ink and is completely non-toxic; the material is similar to a crayon and created in virtually the same fashion. The technology works like this, a solid ink stick is placed within the receptacle and is then heated and ready to use. Ink sticks are very affordable compared to laserjets. For example, Xerox 8500 ink and Xerox C2424 ink have some of the lowest cost per page available in a printer today.
Xerox ink is unique in that it can be used to print on any surface with no bleed through. The resin used to create and produce the solid ink naturally binds to paper products. Print full edge to edge documents with no fear of warping the medium as with inkjet printers. The technology also allows for double sided printing on any medium with absolutely no bleeding between the opposing sides of the document. Xerox solid ink technology is also extremely fast. The average first printed page is out in less than 5 seconds in full color. This technology is extensible to every printing application in business and personal use today.
The initial heating does take slightly longer than traditional technologies like laser and inkjet, but is a small downside to a simple and innovative printing technology. A specially designed single roller mechanism applies the melted solid ink to the page. Because of this, a Xerox ink technology printer’s mechanical design reduces the number of moving parts thus reducing the costs of maintenance. A solid ink technology printer from Xerox can also be filled with new solid ink while it is printing, no need to wait or have a print job interrupted by low ink or toner.

Here is a great opportunity to learn about the industry. Highly recommended for new comers to the copier / printer sales industry – build you network of contacts and also accelerate the learning process.
End customers – take a look-see at the latest from different manufacturers all in one place.
Although I cannot wait for it to come back to the Javits Center in NYC, Phili is not too far and is worth the time spent there.
Several of Magnum’s staff would be at the event and if you would like free event passes, I may be able to help.

Here is a recent press release out on our website:
Xerox Corporation’s (NYSE: XRX) ColorQube™ 9200 Series multifunction printer (MFP), launched earlier this month, is already turning heads in the office printing market. The MFP was honored with a Technological Innovation Award from Industry Analysts, Inc., in recognition of the breakthrough technology behind the world’s first high-speed solid ink multifunction printer.
Industry Analysts Technical Services Division (IATSD) cited Xerox’s technological innovation in expanding solid ink from desktop printers to business-class MFPs capable of printing at speeds up to 85 pages per minute in color.
According to Ted Needleman, senior director of IATSD, “Xerox’s solid ink printers have long been recognized as a unique and effective approach to desktop color printing. Xerox has taken this proven approach and ramped it up with new print heads and a new controller that permit high-speed, high-quality color printing.”
Customers have also seen the early benefits of solid ink technology. The Old Orchard Junior High School in Skokie, Ill. tested the ColorQube MFP and teachers expressed “hue-phoria” at the power of printing in color. “I use color in every document I create for my students now,” said Clifton Dahlgren, seventh grade reading and language arts teacher. “It makes a difference with what the students take away from the lesson.”
The technological innovations employed in the ColorQube™ 9200 Series include key environmental advantages such as:
• Generates 90 percent less supplies waste with its cartridge-free design.
• Uses 9 percent less lifecycle energy and produces 10 percent fewer greenhouse gases than a comparable laser device.
• Loads easily with crayon-like ink sticks that are non-toxic.
Additionally, the ColorQube series cuts the cost of color pages by up to 62 percent compared to traditional color lasers. The MFPs are offered with Xerox’s Hybrid Color Pricing Plans that significantly reduce color page costs by allowing customers to pay only for the amount of color used on any given page.
